Kiro
Spec-driven agentic coding tool from AWS, available as an IDE, CLI and web app
Best for
Developers and teams who want an AI agent to turn a prompt into written requirements, a design and a task list before it writes code.
Overview
Kiro is an agentic coding environment built and operated by AWS. It turns a prompt into a spec (requirements, design, tasks), implements it with parallel agents, and offers hooks, property-based tests and a headless CLI. Plans run from a free tier with 50 monthly credits to Pro ($20), Pro+ ($40), Pro Max ($100) and Power ($200) per user per month.
Strengths and limits
- Spec-driven workflow: requirements, design and sequenced tasks are generated and checked before implementation
- Agent hooks run routine jobs such as adding tests or updating docs in the background
- Choice of Claude, GPT and open-weight models, or an Auto router
- Works with MCP, AGENTS.md and Skills; headless CLI can review pull requests in CI/CD
- Usage is metered in credits that do not roll over; add-on credits cost $0.04 each
- Kiro Web is limited to paid plans (Pro, Pro+, Pro Max, Power)
- Third-party harnesses that route requests outside Kiro's own interfaces are not permitted
What the free plan includes
Perpetual Free plan with 50 credits per month; social login or AWS Builder ID users get Claude Sonnet 4.5 and open-weight models (rate limits apply). Not available for Enterprise or AWS GovCloud (US).
